ServCity: Hailing the Future of Mobility

Telling the story of how, between 2020 and 2023, six expert partners have been quietly developing the gamechanging roadmap for sustainable autonomous vehicles

ServCity launched in 2020 to answer a big question: how can autonomous vehicles become an everyday experience, for everyone? Fast forward to early 2023 and ServCity has completed its journey with the successful demonstration of an autonomous vehicle - in this case an electric Robotaxi - in London.

Studio 145 supported specialist innovation consultancy Innovate Comms to produce a short film that captured the mission, the innovative technology and, perhaps most importantly, what was next for the scalability of this successful trial. A challenging and fascinating project that required deep coordination between project team, comms agency and partners Nissan, Hitachi, Catapult Connected Places, TRL, University of Nottingham and SBD - in order to successfully integrate handheld and fixed filming, with live on-street and in-car feeds, across multiple locations to tell a rich and accurate story. Supported by a VO script that condensed the combined innovation and contribution of 6 partners over two years into a clear narrative.

Our crowded cities are facing unprecedented environmental and mobility challenges; a new approach to transport is needed.

We know that autonomous mobility services have the potential to make travelling in our cities safer, less congested and more efficient. But our urban areas are also complex places with unpredictable (i.e. very human) drivers and pedestrians, not to mention parked vehicles, public transport, pets and inanimate objects. This project set out to create a blueprint for considering and navigating all the influencing factors standing in the way of successful future integration and transition.
